"Old money's out...

...and the Converse-sneaker-clad social networkers are in."

A friend of mine (thanks BigJim!) passed this WSJ article along--"Jacket (Not) Required"--and LC had to share. It's sad that three-piece-suits, fedoras, and neckties are part of a dying era, an era where men and women dressed to a (classy) T in all that they did. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for a return to the June-Cleaver-way-of-life...I can think of a few better things I would rather do than vacuum the house in pearls and a crisply pressed skirt. However, there is a time and a place for everything, including neckties at dinner...

I stumbled across these fun prints (thanks, Twitter!) and had to share. UK based Oh, Dear Molly offers an eye-catching selection of print artwork catered to all tastes...sort of Andy Warhol meets 2011. Love it!

Legally Rugged : Spring Style Preview

Photos: GQ.com
Drumroll, please. LC would like to introduce its first substantive post devoted solely to our male readers: Legally Rugged.  Today's topic: spring style. I love GQ's profile of what's hot in men's fashion right now. Favorites? Woven belts, pastel socks and brown on blue color combos. It's all about texture and color...done in moderation, of course.

The pros of Pro Bono

Photo: C. Aluka Berry/The State
Yesterday The State ran an inspiring article about USC's own Pam Robinson and the law school's Pro Bono Program. Yes, I know that LC may be a bit biased in sharing this article considering LC's ties to the school.... Nonetheless, USC's Pro Bono Program (as with all pro bono programs out there) deserves, to say the least, a pat on the back. It's rewarding to catch a glimpse of just a few of the ways in which legal professionals across the country give back to their communities.  All too often, lawyers and the legal field get labeled with--ummmm, how to put this nicely?!?--not so great stereotypes.  Thus, it's refreshing and encouraging when the positives of the profession are rightfully recognized

For everyone who serves in any way, shape, or form, thanks for all you do...and keep it up!

Oscar de la Renta: 'This is the century of the woman.'

Last night at the French Institute Alliance Francaise, the designer discussed women and femininity:
"My role as a designer is to dress the comfortable woman, to make her feel her best. At times I remember back in the seventies when women’s lib, and women integrating herself in a so-called men’s world. A way to be part of that world is to dress in a pants suit in beige or gray. Today, a woman knows being a woman, feeling like a woman, putting on lipstick, feeling wonderful is very important. The power of her femininity is an important asset. I keep saying this is the century of the woman."
Preach it, Oscar. For the rest of the designer's speech click here.

Judge Declares Mistrial Over Attorney's (in)Competence

On Friday, D.C. Superior Court Judge William Jackson declared a mistrial in a murder case due to defense attorney Joseph Rakofsky's "incompetence." The entire situation makes my skin crawl.

People like Rakofsky give attorneys and the legal profession a (to say it kindly) not-so-great reputation. This "attorney" not only took full and complete advantage of the legal system, but equally capitalized off of his client and the innocent victims of his case. Rakofsky's lack of preparation and blatant indifference for justice and integrity is intolerable and he should be held fully accountable.

Chic Pets!

I obviously don't have one!
